Licensed Practical Nurse

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provide residents with routine daily medications and necessary medical treatments. They also provide bedside care and help evaluate patient needs, develop care plans and oversee the care provided by CNAs. LPNs often serve as charge nurses or unit managers within the facility.

Education & Experience*:
One-year LPN programs are offered at community colleges and vocational schools throughout Massachusetts and will prepare you to take the state licensure exam.

Annual Salary Range
$37,000-$64,000

Registered Nurse

A Registered Nurse (RN) assess resident needs and develop care plans in collaboration with the facility’s care planning team. Registered Nurses also supervise and provide training and education to LPNs and nursing assistants. Registered Nurses may serve on the facility’s senior management team as directors of nursing and assistant directors of nursing and, as such, are responsible for the overall quality of care provide by the facility.

Education & Experience*:
You can either earn an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) in two years, or obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) over four years. Both options allow you to take the state licensure exam required prior to practice. You can also continue your education by earning you Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing.

$45,000-$67,000

Director of Nursing

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for supervising all nursing staff, ensuring there is adequate nursing staff, and that staff’s skills remain current in order to meet the needs of the residents and state and federal regulations. The DON oversees development and implementation of nursing policy and procedure and communication of the needs of the residents to the physicians. Many facilities have Assistant Director of Nursing positions.

Education & Experience*:
A Director of Nursing must meet the registered nurse education requirements and typically possess a minimum of five years experience in a clinical setting with some management experience.

$106,000-$120,000
